Note: This term was introduced by Flag Identifier to provide a precise vexillological equivalent to the heraldic concept of armiger.

A modern parallel to the heraldic term armiger, formed from vexillum "flag" + gerere "to carry, govern, administer."

A vexilliger is the entity that possesses or is entitled to a flag — the legal, institutional, or traditional holder of that flag.
